The SDC Webinar Series
Dr Susan Kay-Williams
Dr Susan Kay-Williams is the Chief Executive of the Royal School of Needlework a post which she has held for 15 years. This year the RSN celebrates its 150th anniversary and will be running courses internationally online and at its base at Hampton Court Palace. Susan started taking an interest in colour when she read an article in a magazine about natural dyeing and then went on to experiment, but with her academic hat on she wanted to know where these colours came from and how they were first discovered, which led to her first book The Story of Colour in Textiles. She has just finished writing her second book on the history of the RSN and now wants to return to researching the development of colour in the 19th century – how science and serendipity changed the world. She was made a Fellow of the SDC in 2015 for her work on the history of colour
